Basingstoke
We have been helping to improve water supplies to the Woodham & St John flight by providing back pumping schemes.
In 2005 we will be putting in facilities to help set up a festival site at Brookwood.
Wey and Arun
We have rebuilt Bignor Bridge and Lee Farm and have refurbished Rowner and Malham Lock We have also built 4 weirs
and 2 footbridges in the Sydney Wood Section and are now just completing the installation of a swing bridge on
The Arun Navigation at Lee Farm. During 2005 we will be helping to rebuild Brewhurst Lock as part of the Onslow
Arms Road Crossing project in Loxwood.
What work is involved ?
We have weekend working parties once a month and a week long Canal Camp in the summer. On every site there is a
good range of work with tasks from towpath clearance to carpentry and from bricklaying to dumper driving. We can
guide you in the right direction and train you in the basics whatever the task.
Safety
The group has a health and safety policy with which we require all volunteers to comply. We welcome all
volunteers between 7 and 70 years who should ensure that they have had a Tetanus jab in the last 10 years.
Further safety information will be given on site.
Accommodation
Normally a village hall with running hot water. Meals for the whole weekend are provided, for which we make a
small charge.
What to Bring
You will need a good set of waterproofs, some old warm clothes, a pair of wellies is essential (preferably with
steel toe caps), and a good pair of gloves. You will also need a hard hat (we can lend you one if you don't have
one). After work, if you are staying overnight, you will need a sleeping bag, a carrymat or camp bed, obviously
a wash kit and some clean clothes for that essential visit to the local pub. Oh, and of course, beer money.
